                Invictus

 Out of the night that covers me, 

      Black as the pit from pole to pole, 

I thank whatever gods may be 

      For my unconquerable soul. 

In the fell clutch of circumstance 

      I have not winced nor cried aloud. 

Under the bludgeonings of chance 

      My head is bloody, but unbowed. 

Beyond this place of wrath and tears 

      Looms but the Horror of the shade, 

And yet the menace of the years 

      Finds and shall find me unafraid. 

It matters not how strait the gate, 

      How charged with punishments the scroll, 

I am the master of my fate, 

      I am the captain of my soul. 

Puisi Invictus yang berarti “Unconquered” adalah sebuah puisi yang berisi tentang perlawanan sang penulis dalam menghadapi kesulitan di hidupnya.

Stanza pertama:

Out of the night that covers me,   pada baris ini “night” atau malam menyimbolkan kegelapan yang terjadi dalam hidup si penulis., menunjukkan putusnya harapan dan keadaan depresi.

Stanza kedua :

In the fell clutch of  circumstance                                                                                         

 I have not winced nor cried aloud.

Pada baris ini penulis menampakkan bahwa dirinya tidak lemah (have not winced nor cried aloud)

Stanza ketiga:

Di stanza ini penulis menguatkan niat bahwa ia akan tetap akan bertahan melawan segala terpaan yang datang.

Stanza keempat: Di stanza ini penulis ingin mengemukakan bahwa apapaun yang terjadi dirinyalah yang menguasai takdirnya dan jiwanya sendiri , terlihat pada dua baris terakhir
